What each decile actually unlocks
This is the part the national table can’t tell you: schools use your score completely differently. Some rank it, some gate on it, some score your grades instead and barely look at it. Roughly, for home applicants in the 2026 cycle:
| Your decile | What it realistically means | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| 1st–4th (≤1820) | UCAT-light routes: schools that score grades instead — e.g. Exeter (75% A-level prediction), Queen's Belfast (GCSE-led /45). From ~1680 you also clear Sunderland's top-8-deciles gate. | Published policies |
| 5th (1830–1880) | Threshold schools come into play — City St George's published 1880 line sits at this decile's top edge. | Published (SGUL) |
| 6th (1890–1950) | Above SGUL's line with margin; KMMS's pass/fail gate region cleared. | Mixed |
| 7th (1960–2010) | Above most estimated mid-table lines; ranked-UCAT schools become realistic. | Estimates |
| 8th (2020–2100) | Manchester's published 2060 standard threshold sits in this decile. | Published (Manchester) |
| 9th (2110–2220) | UCL's published 2190 lowest-invited sits in this decile. | Published (UCL) |
| 10th (2230+) | Everything is in range — Imperial's 2320, the UK's highest published line, sits inside this decile. | Published (Imperial) |

Abstract Reasoning was dropped in 2025, so older scores and cut-offs live on a different scale. UCAT re-scored the same 2024 cohort both ways — this percentile mapping is the honest conversion (a flat ×0.75 runs ~20–25 points high):
| Percentile (2024) | Old scale /3600 | New scale /2700 |
|---|---|---|
| 10th | 2140 | 1580 |
| 20th | 2260 | 1670 |
| 30th | 2360 | 1740 |
| 40th | 2440 | 1810 |
| 50th | 2520 | 1860 |
| 60th | 2590 | 1920 |
| 70th | 2680 | 1980 |
| 80th | 2780 | 2060 |
| 90th | 2920 | 2170 |

UCAT decile FAQs
What are UCAT deciles?
Each year's test-takers are split into ten equal groups by total score. The 2025 boundaries (/2700) were: 1580, 1680, 1760, 1820, 1880, 1950, 2010, 2100 and 2220 — so a score of 2220 or above is the top decile (top 10% nationally). The mean was 1891.
What decile is my UCAT score?
Find the highest boundary your score reaches: 2000 is 7th decile (it clears 1950 but not 2010), 2150 is 9th (clears 2100 but not 2220). The lookup at the top of this page does it instantly, with your percentile.
Is a 5th or 6th decile UCAT enough for medicine?
At ranked-UCAT schools, usually not for home applicants — but several schools don't rank UCAT at all. Exeter scores 75% on predicted grades, Queen's Belfast is GCSE-led, KMMS uses UCAT only as a pass/fail gate, and Sunderland accepts the top 8 deciles. A mid UCAT with strong academics still has real options.
Do medical schools actually use deciles?
Yes, several score by national decile directly — Exeter and Dundee convert your decile into points, and Queen's Belfast awards /9 by decile. Others rank raw scores or publish cut-offs instead. That's why the same score can be 'strong' at one school and 'unlikely' at another.
How do old /3600 deciles compare to the new /2700 scale?
UCAT re-scored the same 2024 cohort without Abstract Reasoning: the old 50th percentile (2520/3600) maps to about 1860/2700, and the old 90th (2920) to about 2170. A flat ×0.75 conversion runs roughly 20–25 points too high.
