Scored before 2025, or comparing against an old cut-off? Flat ×0.75 runs ~20–25 points high — this uses UCAT’s own same-cohort percentile data.
UCAT deciles 2025 (/2700 scale)
The current test has three scored sections — Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning — each scaled 300–900, so totals run 900–2700. These are the official decile boundaries from the 2025 test (the cycle used for 2026 entry; 2026 test statistics publish in the autumn). The mean was 1891.

Converting an old /3600 score
Abstract Reasoning was dropped in 2025, shrinking the maximum from 3600 to 2700. A flat ×0.75 conversion is wrong — it runs about 20–25 points high, because score distributions aren’t uniform. The honest method uses UCAT’s own data: the same 2024 cohort was re-scored without Abstract Reasoning, so each percentile maps an old score to its true new equivalent.
| Percentile (2024) | Old scale /3600 | New scale /2700 |
|---|---|---|
| 10th | 2140 | 1580 |
| 20th | 2260 | 1670 |
| 30th | 2360 | 1740 |
| 40th | 2440 | 1810 |
| 50th | 2520 | 1860 |
| 60th | 2590 | 1920 |
| 70th | 2680 | 1980 |
| 80th | 2780 | 2060 |
| 90th | 2920 | 2170 |

Only relative to a school. UCAT thresholds for 2026 entry ranged from roughly 1680 to 2320 for home applicants — and several schools don’t rank UCAT at all, scoring GCSEs or predicted grades instead. A few published examples:
| School | 2026 home UCAT line | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Sunderland | ≈1680 (top 8 deciles) | Own published, AR-adjusted |
| City St George's | 1880 | Self-published, 2026 cycle |
| Manchester (A106) | 2060 standard / 1960 WP+ | Self-published, 2026 cycle |
| UCL | 2190 (lowest invited) | Published, 2026 cycle |
| Imperial | 2320 / 2170 contextual | Published, 2026 cycle |
Thresholds move every cycle with demand. The full tool tracks all UK medical schools, converts old-scale lines properly, and scores your whole profile each school’s own way.
UCAT score FAQs
What is a good UCAT score in 2026?
The 2025 mean was 1891 and the top decile starts above 2220, but “good” is school-relative: about 1680 clears Sunderland's gate while Imperial's 2026 home threshold was 2320. Judge your score against specific schools, not the national average.
How is the UCAT scored?
Three cognitive sections — Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning — are each scaled 300–900, giving a total of 900–2700. The Situational Judgement Test is scored separately as Band 1–4. Abstract Reasoning was removed in 2025, which is why older scores are out of 3600.
How do I convert an old /3600 UCAT score to the new /2700 scale?
Use percentiles, not a flat ×0.75 (that runs roughly 20–25 points high). UCAT re-scored the same cohorts without Abstract Reasoning: a 2520/3600 (50th percentile, 2024) is equivalent to about 1860/2700. The converter on this page does this properly.
What UCAT score do I need for medicine?
Anywhere from about 1680 to 2320 depending on the school and route — published 2026 thresholds ranged from Sunderland's top-8-deciles gate to Imperial's 2320. Several schools don't rank UCAT at all and score GCSEs or predicted grades instead, so a “low” UCAT can still have strong options.
Does my SJT band matter?
At about half of UK medical schools, yes — 21 of the 40 we audited reject Band 4 outright for home applicants, and some score the band at interview. The rest ignore it. It's a per-school rule, so check before you shortlist.
