Best medical schools UK · 2027 entry
The best medical schools in the UK are the ones you can actually get into.
League tables rank research, reputation and student satisfaction. Useful — but none of it tells you whether your GCSEs, predicted grades and UCAT clear a particular school’s selection system.
Below is the free public picture: how each UK medical school chooses students, which ones publish a cut-off, and where the pressure points are. Add your profile and EDGU re-ranks all 44 schools by your real chance of an offer.

So what does “best” actually mean?
There is no single best UK medical school for every applicant. For a 9th-decile UCAT student, the best choices are usually the UCAT-heavy schools. For a student with stellar GCSEs and a mid UCAT, the best choices are the academic-scored schools. For a resit applicant, the best choices are simply the schools that allow the application at all. The “best” four on your UCAS form depend entirely on which of your numbers is strongest.
UK medical schools, by how they select
The free, public layer: published cut-offs, known selection styles and the standard grade requirement. UCAT-ranked schools rank you on score; academic-led schools barely weight it; scored schools fold it into a wider formula. The “your fit” column is blurred because it changes for every applicant.

Published lines are the universities’ own figures. “EDGU est.” marks schools that withhold their cut-off — the modelled number is unlocked in the tool. See full detail on each school’s entry-requirements page.
What’s free here, and what’s in the tool
Everything a university states publicly stays on this page, free. The paid layer is only the part that depends on you — whether your score clears a school, where a hidden cut-off likely sits, how your grades trade against your UCAT, and which four choices waste the least opportunity.

Your GCSEs, predicted grades, UCAT and SJT band — or a target UCAT if you haven’t sat it yet.
We model every school
Each school runs on its own real selection method, not a one-size league table — so a mid UCAT isn’t penalised where grades carry the day.
See your ranked four
Strong, borderline or wasted choice, with the line you need to clear — so you spend your UCAS choices where you’re genuinely competitive.

FAQs
What is the best medical school in the UK?
For prestige and research, people argue about Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL and King's. For getting an offer, the better question is which school's selection system favours your profile — and that answer changes from applicant to applicant. A school that ranks hard on UCAT is a strong pick for a high scorer and a wasted choice for a mid one.
Is this a university league table?
No. League tables rank universities on research, staffing and reputation. EDGU ranks application fit — how likely your grades and UCAT are to convert into an offer at each school. A high-prestige school can still be a poor UCAS choice for a particular student.
Why are some cut-offs blurred?
Where a university publishes its UCAT line or scoring grid, we show the real figure free and label it Published. Where a school withholds its line, EDGU shows a modelled estimate from applicant-reported offer data — that part is unlocked inside the tool.
Does EDGU guarantee an interview or offer?
No. It is a decision tool, not a promise. It uses published rules, historic data and modelled thresholds to show where your odds are strongest and where a choice is structurally weak, so you spend your four UCAS choices well.
